This exceptionally beautiful part of Sussex encompasses a variety of lovely countryside from the South East’s largest lake, Bewl Water, to the largest public access site, Ashdown Forest. Sailing, canoeing, fishing, golf and Pooh Sticks are amongst the many outdoor pursuits on offer at these attractions. There are splendid gardens to visit at Nymans, Pashley Manor and Sheffield Park, from where the superbly preserved Bluebell Railway takes nostalgic journeys. Elsewhere, the Cuckoo Trail takes advantage of an abandoned railway line, to afford great cycling and walking opportunities. Country pubs and restaurants abound in the many attractive towns and villages that include Mayfield, Wadhurst, Uckfield and Ditchling.
